Quantifying Transformation and Telling the Story: Part II

Most recently at our workshop in Indian Wells, California, we conducted a study with 32 people, each of whom agreed to have their brains scanned before, during, and after the weeklong meditation retreat. As mentioned in the previous post, we drew pre- and post-blood samples from the same volunteer test subjects. To measure different values and baselines, some of the brain scans included pre-event scans with the students’ eyes open, eyes open on a task, eyes closed, and eyes closed in a meditation. Students that were involved in the study were also divided into a novice group (less than 6 [...]

Part I . Quantifying Transformation and Telling the Story

Over the years, in witnessing the transformational experiences in our community, I was inspired to assemble a team of research scientists to begin measuring the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual transformations that we once thought were immeasurable. Last month, we began a new phase of scientific testing at our weeklong workshop in Indian Wells, California. In addition to continuing to share powerful and inspiring testimonials, the goal of this next phase of scientific research is to document, at a more detailed level, the genetic, chemical, magnetic, and electrical activity that occurs within the body and brain—the result of which produces [...]

Seeing Is Believing

In April 2018, Tillman’s (Til) doctors detected a very aggressive cancer tumor called an anaplastic ependymoma Type 3—a rare, fast-growing tumor that most often occurs in the brain, but it can also occur in the spine. For Til, the tumor was lodged in his spinal cord between two of his vertebrae, causing the vital nerve supply to his lower body to be cut off. The following month, his doctors performed surgery to remove the tumor; however, complications during the operation caused nerve damage. As a result, he lost most of the use of his legs. In addition, the right side [...]

Emotions as Tools of Creation (Part II)

Heart and brain coherence is the process whereby we learn to self-regulate and/or self-emote. This means developing our ability to generate and create emotions from within, rather than waiting for something outside of us to dictate how we feel. When we start using elevated emotions as creative energy, as we get better at the process of generating them, we no longer need to look to (or change) anything in our outer environment for us to feel happy or whole. Instead, we create elevated feelings just for the sake of healing our own heart or creating our own joy. This is [...]

Emotions as Tools of Creation (Part I)

As human beings, emotions are one of the most powerful tools and resources of creation that we possess. This means that, as the creator of our own emotions—because we are endowed with free will—at every moment we have the opportunity to choose how we think, feel, act, and react to the people, circumstances, and situations in our lives. Since I began teaching this work, one of the core practices of my teachings has been to guide and enable people to self-regulate so that they can change their emotional states at will; that is, to practice being less of a victim [...]

Making Change Stick – Tips on How to Beat Those New Year’s Resolution Blues

Does this sound familiar? It’s a new year and a new decade, and the new you is ready to follow suit. Motivation and ambition are running at an all-time high. You’re finally going to reach those goals you’ve been striving for; you’re finally going to take those first few steps towards actualizing your dream. And then… Three weeks into the new year and you’re back to the old self, stuck in old familiar thoughts, habits, behaviors or emotions, living out of the same unconscious programs, and succumbing to your environment (or the people in your environment), which expects you to [...]

Jackson Pollock’s Journey Towards Fractals

“The modern artist...is working and expressing an inner world—in other words—expressing the energy, the motion, and other inner forces.” Jackson Pollock When the American painter Jackson Pollock began pouring and dripping paint across canvases in the late 1940s and early 1950s, his work at first appeared to be completely random. In a relatively short period of time, however, he garnered the public’s attention, and with that came critics who were eager to interpret his abstract, avant-garde style. “We have a deliberate disorder of hypothetical hidden orders,” one critic wrote, “or ‘multiple labyrinths.’” In 1999, a physicist named Richard Taylor from [...]

Forgiving the Past to Create the Future

With the end of 2019 upon us and the fresh start of a new decade before us, let’s talk about forgiveness. We’ve all had situations in our life where we’ve been shocked, betrayed, traumatized, manipulated, or abused in one way or another. We can all agree that the emotional gravity of these situations creates very strong impressions in our biology. In fact, the stronger the emotional reaction to a person, problem, or experience, the more altered internally we become. When these types of upsets occur, our internal alarm systems switch on, and in doing so, because the event is so [...]

A Day in No Time

When we changed the format at our Advanced Workshops into weeklong events, we also introduced outdoor challenge activities. Some of those activities included rappelling down buildings and running the gauntlet of elevated obstacle courses. The purpose of these activities is to challenge people to overcome their fears and unconscious programs by applying “the formula” with their eyes open (instead of with their eyes closed in meditation) in order to demonstrate brain and heart coherence during life’s defining moments. In Niagara Falls, New York, however, we decided to present our students with an internal challenge. We called it “A Day in [...]

The Purpose of the Kaleidoscope and Why We Use It

Since my team and I began this journey, we have been extensively training our student body to change their brain waves with their eyes closed in meditation. When you close your eyes in meditation, disconnect from the outer world, and music fills the space, the sensory information coming into the brain is reduced. The less sensory information coming into your brain, the more the neocortex, or the thinking brain, settles down. When the thinking brain shuts down, we move into trance, which allows us to receive more information either from our own autosuggestions, from visions of a new future, or [...]
